The DVD Copying Process
When copying any DVD to a blank DVD there are three basic processes involved:
Ripping
Ripping is the process of extracting the raw video and audio components from your DVD movie and placing it in a location on your PCs hard drive for further manipulation. This ripped data can be converted into another format such as DIVX or MPEG or you may view the ripped data in a software video player. DVD Detective allows you do all of this.
Transcoding
Transcoding is the process where the ripped DVD data – that is now on your hard drive – and preparing it so that it can be written to a blank DVD. You just can't copy and paste ripped DVD data to a blank DVD. It must be prepared or changed into a format acceptable to the blank DVD so that it can be played in a DVD player. Another word you may hear for transcoding is encoding. DVD Detective walks you through this simple process. It is automatic actually.
Burning
This is the last step in copying a DVD. Once that ripped data is prepared (transcoded), it can now be burned (written) onto a blank DVD. DVD Detective makes this possible.
